In The Crates

"In The Crates" is a post that chronicles the life span of the milk crate. Through a typical day around town I found purposeful uses for the milk crate. Some of it was unbelievably ghetto and a clear realization of tough economical times in the City of Chicago, Streets and Sanitation Dept. as well as Development Dept. Another is a clear sign that there are a lot more kids playing basketball in the city with not many options for courts to choose from. Lastly, the secret life of the milk crate has made it easy for organizing and "compact" for great storage options. When you are ready to go paint you simply stuff as much paint in one as it is fairly easy to carry because of the perfectly placed handles and best of all if there is a hard to reach spot you simply empty it out and convert it in to a stepping stool. Somewhere out there, someone is using a crate to store their vinyl records. The purpose of this post is to change your perception of the milk crate as it is purposeful and evidently necessary to play, drive and live comfortably.I hope that the next time you see a crate you realize and say "hey! I can use that to cover a pot hole" Thanks for tuning in.

  1. Back in the day milk crates were the djs tool box. Nowadays the laptop is the new dj toolbox. Sad but true.
